wow. these photos are beautiful.. seems like an eerie protest. how many people were there? did you feel that you were among comrades in lonesome japan? i think we're going to a protest in gentilly on saturday. perhaps i'll take pictures....
chère alanna~ there were about i'd say 200 people. it was a very lame protest. everything is very tame in japan, even by american standards. and americans as you know are miserable at protesting. the press even hid in its little hole to the side. when they demonstrators took to the streets, they acted just like a tour group. as police held up little flags to lead them along their pre-determined route. the protest was just like a very large bus of sorts, following all traffic rules to a T. not very revolutionary. but very creepy. i did not feel among comrades because they kept telling me to stop taking photos and i kept telling them they were on public property and they can't tell me do to anything.
there are cultural reasons, i grasp, that leads to all of this, but i think it's all kind of against the interest of the individual. but that's the point.

these have a lingering creepy feeling to them. they march in straight orderly lines and follow the cops..? all very beautiful of course, the composition tells the story. which is pretty hard to do.

I love how the sense of questioning and the themes are very universal.
Very Alfred Hitchcock feel when I see this series.
